  • Study of single fluctuations in electrochemical noise signals
Legat, Andraž ; Bajt Leban, Mirjam
In this study, single fluctuations in electrochemical noise (EN) signals are discussed. Electrochemical noise was measured for two different types of corrosion systems: during the development of a ... pitting corrosion process and during cracking processes in two different environments. The results have shown that analysis of a single electrochemical noise fluctuation might provide valuable information about the type and kinetics of particular corrosion processes. Significant shifts in the dc level of the measured electrochemical noise generally indicate a continuous corrosion process on only one of the electrodes in the systems. On the other hand, transients of electrochemical noise consisting of sudden rises followed by slow decays are characteristic for instantaneous corrosion events such as stress-corrosion cracking.
