  • Efficient visualization of 4D fractal structures

    A special algorithm appropriate for visualisation of 4D fractals and other 4D volume datasets is presented in the paper. The presented algorithm tries to improve the CPU times needed for rendering of ... single time steps of 4D volume data by taking into consideration the temporal coherence in the data. Changed voxels between two consecutive time steps are discovered at first and the information is stored in the data structure called differential volume. With the help of differential volume, the brute force ray casting has to be performed only for the first time step of the data, while images of other time steps can be rendered with differential volume rendering algorithm. With this approach a significant speed-up in the rendering of 4D volume data can be achieved.
