  • Bicomponent PP/PE matrix fibril filament yarns spun with the addition of paraffin oil
    Demšar, Andrej, 1964- ; Sluga, Franci, 1948-2023
In the present study, the spinning conditions for the production of bicomponent PP/PE matrix fibril filament yarns, to which the paraffin oil was added, are presented. The basic polymers for the ... production of the matrix fibril filament yarns were commercial PP homopolymer Hostalen PPU 1080 F with moderate melt flow rate index (MFR = 12,5) and commercial PE homopolymer Hostalen PE GF 7740 F with low melt flow rate index (MFR = 0,5). The blends of PP and PE polymers were prepared in following PP/PE weight proportions: 100/0, 90/10, 80/20, 50/50, 20/80, 10/90 and 0/100. Paraffin oil (2 % of mass) was used as an additive in the spinning of bicomponent PP/PE matrix fibril filament yarns on a laboratory spin-draw device. The paraffin oil was added to the polymer in the feeding zone of the extruder prior melting of the polymer. The melt spinning of filament yarns was carried out on an Extrusion Systems Ltd. laboratory spin-draw device. The yarns were then wound up on the winding machine and then subsequently additionally drawn on a Zimmer draw device. The paper also deals with the textile-technological and mechanical properties (linear density, tensile strength, breaking extension and elasticity modulus) and some structural properties (determination of melting point and crystallinity) of PP/PE matrix fibril filament yarns.
