  • Non-destructive investigation techniques in bridge inspection [Elektronski vir]
Kušar, Matej, gradbeništvo ; Cmok, Dušan
Regular bridge maintenance is primarily based on visual inspections. However, when assessing critical or concealed damage, visual inspection is often inadequate as intensity of a damage cannot be ... reliably determined, especially its depth. In such cases, inspector has to impose additional investigations. Investigation techniques can be by nature either destructive or non-destructive. Results of destructive techniques are more reliable, but non-destructive techniques are easily repeatable without affecting the state of the inspected construction. Within the field of bridge management, where large group of bridges over long time periods is dealt with, the use of non-destructive investigation techniques is considerably more appropriate. More than one investigation technique is often available to assess the same type of damage. The article discusses the available methods of investigations and for each of them briefly indicates their advantages and disadvantages.
