First approaches in word prominence prediction

The corpus driven methods in symbolic prosody prediction require properly labeled corpora. The labeling of such corpora requires skilled experts and is very time consuming and cost extensive. In ...addition to semiautomatic method used for prosody breaks detection where encouraging results were achieved š1đ,wećll present a simple method towards automatic prosodic prominence detection and prediction. In our approach only distinction between accented and not accented words was performed within a phrase comparing pitch, mean average pitch for each word to mean average pitch and energy for the concernedsentence. A simple empirical algorithm for detection of prominent words in a segment, sentence or clause will be introduced and results in prediction of prominent words with neural nets will be presented.
