  • Reduction of discrete noise peaks by using resonator ring and direction slot [Elektronski vir]
Biček, Andrej ; Tavčar, Jože, 1966-
Vacuum cleaner motors are getting smaller and they rotate faster. Consequently they generate more noise, but today's expectances are to produce ecologic low noise products. An especially pure tone at ... blade-passing frequency is annoying for the end user. Direction slots and Helmholtz resonator can substantially reduce noise peaks in the spectrum. The paper presents the design solution and noise reduction of the vacuum cleaner motors.Direction slots improve noise quality, that means the motor sounds softer and the spectrum does not have any peaks in the whole human frequency range. But the motors with direction slots have smaller efficiency and represent compromise between vacuum cleaner motor with and without diffuser. Helmholtz resonators reduce blade-passing frequency only and do not affect the efficiency.
