Archaeological presentation between project and audience : interpreting the siteAžman Momirski, LučkaThe Roman wall in Ljubljana is a case study in which archaeological remains are transformed from an architectural to a didactic image. Ljubljana's ancient predecessor, the Roman military settlement ... Emona, was first mentioned in the year 14 AD. The sourhwest part of the fortification wall was excavated in the second decade of this century by Walter Schmid. The archaeological monument was first protected by him. In 1936-1938 the most prominent Slovenian architect, Joze Plecnik, intervened to stop an attempt to destroy the archaeological remains of the circular wall of Emona. The basis for the archaeological presentation was an artistic approach to the past. During the last 56 years, the presentation of the Emona wall evolved in two ways: its physical image eas modified, and its mental image also modified. Nowadays the public, the inhabitants of the city, the tourists, etc, accept the archaeological presentation, designed as an architectural project, as a didactic image.Type of material - conference contributionPublish date - 1994Language - englishCOBISS.SI-ID - 939652
