  • The aesthetization of women : clothes and make up choices
    Kovačev, Asja Nina
The present study was planned to determine the predominant type of self-aesthetization in Slovenia. It consisted of two experiments. The first was aimed to find out the dressing styles of Slovenes, ... particularly the clothes' colour preferences. The study included women's clothes because of the large variety of their colours. Female subjects had to chose their favourite clothes that they would like to wear (because of their aesthetic value), while male subjects chose the colour they considered the most appropriate (i.e. beautiful) for an attractive woman. Both sexes had to evaluate the dresses on the scale that extended from -3 to 3 on the following dimensions: excitement-calmness, perceivableness, symbolisms, fantasy, elegance, modernity, attractiveness, perfection, warmth, emotionality, sensuality - spirituality, luxury, lightness, and morality. The second experiment included only women. They had to chose their favourite lip stik and the appropriate eye shadow. They evaluated them on the following dimensions: perceivableness - discretness, extravagance, warmth, beauty, harmony, and modernity. By this predominant make up styles of Slovene women were determined.
