The introduction of the legal information system was based on the many long years of experience had by the Legal Information centre of the Constitutional Court of RS, especially with reference to its ... information and documentation record keeping. The legal information sub-system has been in operation with the Legal Information centre since the 1st of January, 1987. This is the first existing legal information system with the specialized data base in the domain of Yugoslav constitutional courts. Thus, it is an active model system in the field of constitutional justice. Most of the final documents of the Constitutional Court included in the respective legal information system have already been marked with a fairly high level of standardization. Such standardization in its turn facilitated the transition to automated data processing. The information system project elaborated by the Legal Information Centre of the Constitutional Court of RS includes a precise definition of internal user data requirements with reference to the current operation of the Constitutional Court, as well as, anticipated requirements of external users. The legal data base of the Constitutional Court of RS may be located on any computer containing the software which enables a search following the full-text method. At present, the data base is located on two central computers. The data base is located primarily in the central IBM computer in Ljubljana (the 1st location) along with the STAIRS programme packet (full-text system). The database is also located (the 2nd location) in the computer at the Computer Centre of the University of Maribor (VAX) with the ATLAS program packet (full-text system). The existing data base includes all current practical and theoretical cases related to all constitutional courts of Yugoslavia and covering the period from the 1st of January, 1964 (Slovenia) and the 1st of January, 1970 or 1985 (the other constitutional courtes) onwards. At this moment, the database stores 12000 documents. The Constitutional Court has also contracted for the user agreements with the ECHOhost in Luxembourg and JURIS host in Saarbruecken. The system is connected to JUPAK network.
