Geotechnical constructions in permo-carboniferous clastic rock

Some major earthworks have been carried out in Slovenia during last four years in permo-carboniferous clastic rock. Rock mass rating for such formationsis generally low and according to Bieniawski's ...classification this material belongs to poor and very poor rock with extremely low strength. During the design stages a lot of concern had been dedicated to the geotechnical aspects of the design. Despite careful design, some geotechnical works could not be completed according to plans. The most important aspects of the selected case histories are presented and discussed. In the conclusions the lessons learned from these case histories are summarised
