  • Degradation of Reactive black 5 by ultrasound treatment
Vajnhandl, Simona ; Majcen Le Marechal, Alenka ; Rehorek, Astrid
Removal of azo dyes from textile effluents is still a main issue in wastewatertreatment. Due to low biodegradability and threat of aromatic aminesformation under anaerobic conditions different ... advanced oxidation processes are exploiting. Decolouration of Reactive Black 5 using ultrasound as advanced oxidation process is presented. Formation of hydroxyl radicals strongly depends on the used frequency and acoustic power. HPLC investigationsshow the formation of at least five intermediates. Hydroxylationof aromatic ring structures and consequently azo bond scission appear to be the first steps in dye degradation.
