    As to the purpose austenitic stainless steels are the most widely used stainless steels. In welding possible changes in the microstructures of a weld and a heat-affected zone (HAZ) may due to several ... factors. The paper deals with an analysis and experimental verification of key factors affecting the formation of delta ferrite in the weld since the latter strongly affects the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the weld. Experiments were carried out on two different plates, i.e. one made of stainless steel 304 and one of steel 316 L. The influence of heat input provided in TIG remelting of a surface using pure argon but no filler material on an increase in ferrite phase was analysed. Further changes of delta ferrite in the weld and HAZ were analyzed using MAG welding with different filler materials, i.e. 308LSi, cored wire 316LTO, and 904L. For shielding gas mixture of 90% Ar, 5% N2 and 5% CO2 was used. Measurements of delta ferrite were carried out with a ferritoscope and then statistically processed.
