    Switching overvoltages are caused by the switching on or off of equipment. They are electromagnetic transient phenomena and are often superimposed on a short power frequency voltage rise. ... Overvoltages effect the design of insulation, the selection of apparatus and quite often also the operating procedure. Internal overvoltages predominante in the upper voltage levels. Internal overvoltages are a result of phenomena which are often complex and they can be limited by many measures when particular attention must be paid to a reduction of the voltage rises at operational frequency. This paper presents the network parameters influencing on the size of switching overvoltages. Special attention is paid to possible mens of limiting overvoltages.
