  • Smernice o izbiranju med italijanskima perfektoma ali kaj je dobro vedeti o vlogi perfektov v proznih besedilih
    Mikolič Južnič, Tamara
The complexity of the Italian tense system can be quite demanding for Slovene translators, who are often forced to translate into a foreign language. The Italian system differs from the Slovene one ... both in the number of items and in the principles that rule the choice of one form over another in a given situation. Considerable attention has been paid to the aspectual pair "Imperfetto/Perfetti", while the difference between the two Perfetti has often been marginalized. The use of the Passato Prossimo and the Passato Remoto is usually problematic even for native speakers of Italian, since a number of them learn it at school and not as a part of their mother tongue. This and other similar problems lead to a very specific situation for the Slovene translator, who, on the one side, cannot find useful information in most of the existing Italian grammar books nor can he/she always readily find native speakers to act as models, and on the other hand has nothing even remotely similar in his/her own language. The present paper briefly introducesall the relevant factors that, in an earlier analysis, influenced the translators' choices and concentrates on how some of them work in real texts; furthermore, it offers some guidelines that should help Slovene-Italian translators and points out some specific characteristics relevant to translation.
