    Grošelj, Robert, 1978-
    In 1990 H. Běličová, a renowned Czech linguist, published a contrastive study on Slavic coordinate sentence (as a part of a monograph Slovanské souvětí, written together with J. Sedláček), in which ... she analysed also Slovene examples. Since Běličová's study has not yet received an adequate attention in Slovene linguistics, it was decided to evaluate her contribution to the description of Slovene coordinate sentence (a special consideration was given, in particular, to the relation of contrast). With the general structural-semantic classification of complex sentences (semantic criteria are secondary to the coordinate-subordinate sentence opposition), Běličová's analysis is related to traditional structuralist works by J. Toporišič, E. Tokarz. However, her thorough syntactic-semantic interpretation of complex coordinate relations, signalled by various connectors (cf. the contrast), represents an advance not only over traditional syntactic works, but also over functionalist and text linguistic analyses of Slovene inter-clausal coordination. As such, Běličová's study can be considered of great significance for Slovenian syntax and it deserves a more detailed and critical review in Slovene linguistics.
