Lowex vs. Conventional Systems: User/Building/Environment [Elektronski vir]Dovjak, Mateja ...Exergy analysis treats processes in a building jointly with the processes inside the human body. It helps to design comfort conditions for every user with rational building energy use. So far only ... the exergy consumption of an average man in normal conditions has been considered, but not of individual users in different environments (i.e. hot/humid, cold/humid, hot/dry, cold/dry). From the exergetic point of view a comparison between conventional and LowEx systems regarding thermal comfort conditions for individual users and building energy use is investigated. Human body exergy balance chain is studied in extreme conditions. Individual thermal comfort conditions are analyzed by calculated human body exergy consumption rates and predicted mean votes (PMV) index with spread sheet software. The calculation procedures follow the human body exergy model. Results show that human body exergy balance chain differs among individuals even when they are exposed to the sameexperimental conditions. In hot and dry conditions the human body exergy rate is the largest, in hot and humid conditions it is the lowest. Similar human body exergy consumption rates appear in hot and dry and also in cold anddry conditions. The difference appears if the whole human body exergy balance chain is taken into consideration. The measured energy use for heatingwas by 11.0- 26.8% lower for LowEx system than for conventional system. The energy use for cooling was by 41.2-61.5% lower for LowEx system. LowEx system enables us to create more comfortable conditions than with conventional system.Source: 2nd International Exergy, Life Cycle Assessment and Sustainability Workshop & Symposium (ELCAS-2) [Elektronski vir] : 19 - 21 June, 2011, Nisyros - Greece (Str. 1-8)Type of material - conference contributionPublish date - 2011Language - englishCOBISS.SI-ID - 5482849
