  • Comparison between theoretical and experimental models in classification of rhythmic gymnastics elements
    Furjan-Mandić, Gordana ...
This research is done with a goal to analyze elements in gymnastics, A and B groups. The elements are classified in homogeneous gropus by means of taxonomic analysis, after which a congruence between ... obtained taxons and a theoretical model of grouping elements of gymnastics is established. The entity sample consists of 108 body elements, from diffuculty groups A and B (FIG, 1997), which are described with 33 aspects. Ten significant latent dimensions were obtained by a componnet analysis with a Guttman-Kaiser criterion, interpreted as follows: leaps with take-off from one leg, spine mobility, frontal flexibility, free leg movements or held by the hands, body rotations, leaps with take-off both legs, bending forward, other leaps and specific elements. The Ward method was used in oreder to establish hierarchic grouping, which enabled the recognition of groups on the three levels. Eight groups were establish on the first level, four on the second level, and two gropus on the third level. This kind of division corresponds completly to the classification of the theoretical method's elements. it is established that the gropus vary on the basis of body and limb movements in basic directions, muscle group engagement, types of support surfaces, as well as the way of taking-off from the floor. The group congruity is defined by calculating the congruity between experimental and theoretical taxons. Angle cosinus values are calculated among all taxons within the same grouping models (two, four andeight of elements), and after that among all taxons of gymnastics elements mutally. The obtained results lead to a conclusion that the objectiveestablishment of groups of elements in gymnastics is very demanding, as well as limited by nature and number of aspects which with the elements are described. However, according to the limited number of aspects and elements of gymnastics, it is evident that there are several equal criteria according to the which the technique elements can be grouped. Experimental models of classifying elements based on the estimation of presence or importance of certian aspects, used in this paper, contain element's characteristics which would be difficult or almost impossible to measure objectively.
