Vloga naravnih zdravilišč v rehabilitaciji bolnikov z rakom = Role of natural health spas in rehabilitation of cancer patients

Most of the Slovene thermal spas with their programs are included in the public health system network and provide spa and medical care services. With their medical programs, they are included into ...the organized medical rehabilitation in Slovenia at the secondary level. For many years, the spas have provided rehabilitation of cancer patients with disorders and impairments of locomotor, gastrointestinal, central and peripheral nervous systems, breast and reproductive organs. The rehabilitation is carried out in the form of natural medicinal means, medical rehabilitation methods, diet therapy and certain forms of psychotherapy. The purpose of rehabilitation is to improve general functional abilities of a human organism and individual organ systems and in that manner enhance the quality of life. Health resorts also offer complementary therapy methods. A patient is entitled to be treated in a health resort according to the rules of the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia (ZZZS), which define the duration of stay and the number of therapeutic procedures for each individual insured patient. The standard type 6 defines the entitlement to rehabilitation after surgical operation of malignant tumors in breast, reproductive organs and operations of small pelvis and testicles. For all other cancer patients, the rule states that they are entitled to treatment in health resorts if their functional disorders are expected to be improved or removed. The condition of disease is defined and classified according to individual standard type with regard to the diagnosis and location of malignant disease. The development of a program and standard would be necessary to define the rehabilitation of cancer patients in health resorts.
