  • En čevelj in več tort v dvorani zrcal
    Weber, Irena
The article deals with the ceremony of marriage as a rite of passage (as perceived by Arnold van Gennep), its ritual structure and meaning in contemporary society. First part, "front stage or the ... script", is ethnographic report of a marriage recorded on a videotape, stressing the local colour of events that are seen as rites of separation and incorporation. At the same time in the form of footnotes there is proposed interpretation of the ceremony. Second part, "back stage or social metacomments", conects performative elements of ceremony with theatre performance and initiation with regard to contemporary significance of marriage ceremony. Performance is life as seen in a mirror. Through time, reflections in a mirror hall are changing a group image. The ones do not see themselves in that particulare image, cast the reflection of some other mirror.
