  • An interactive approach to defining constraints in constraint-based modeller
Kolmanič, Simon ; Žalik, Borut ; Guid, Nikola
In our paper, an experimental 2D constraint-based modelling system that distinguishes between the auxiliary and the visible geometry is presented. Theauxiliary geometry is fixed by the geometrical ... constraints and represents the framework on which the entities of visible geometry are mapped. Although being constraint based, our system is highly interactive. Self-understandable constraints and entities of auxiliary geometry are extracted automatically by the system. In this way, the user feels our system as an ordinary drawing system. At any stage of the design process it is possible to see the shape of the geometric object although this object is under-costrained, which means that there is not enough data to calculate exactly the positions of all geometrical entities. As the user adds a new constraint to the object, its parametrization is gradually built. The shape of the geometric object is changed automatically as the parameters of the added constraints are changed In this way, the reusability of geometric objects is highly increased. Both processes, adding of geometric objects and changing of their parameters are higjy interactive and very simple from the user`s point of view, which will be highlightened by examples in the paper.
