Stochastic analysis of current fluctuations during general corrosion of stainless steel in sulfuric acid

Current fluctuation during general corrosion of stainless steel in sulfuric acid were studied experimentally and analyzed using a simple electrochemical model. The stochastic behaviour of the ...metal-electrolyte interface in the model was based on the assumption that elementary fluctuation sources were related to fluxes of electrons that pass from a metal to electron-acceptor ions in the solution. The number of successful electrons transfers obeyed a Gaussian distribution, from which the corrosion current density and transfer coefficients could be determined.
