  • The Production of Greco-Italic amphorae in the Adriatic region
Zupančič, Nina, 1963- ; Horvat, Jana ; Dobnikar, Meta, 1964-
Pottery samples from amphorae of the later Greco-Italic type and Lamboglia 2 type and amphorae lids from Sermin (Slovenia) were arhaeologically classified and subjected to chemical and mineralogical ... analysis. The results were dealt with statistically. It was established that the source material for the poterry was the same for all samples. It was most probably a clay formed on marl rocks. Both amphorae types were produced in the same region, probably in the Adriatic area. According to somewhat varied mineral composition the samples were divided into two groups. On the mineralogical basisi for different firing temperature ranges (under 750oC, 750oC-850oC, 850oC-900oC, and above 950oC) were determine.
