Quality of scales measuring complete social networks

This paper evaluates the validity and reliability of complete network measurement instruments. The authors present and discuss the results of two experiments which were designed to systematically ...analyze the quality of the following three measurement instruments each of which are defined by different scales: the binary scale, the ordinal scale and the line production scale as used to estimate the strength of interpersonal relations. Reliabilityand validity were assessed with the true score MTMM approach. Similar results emerged from from both experiments despite the reverse ordering of the measurement scales. The binary scale had the lowest reliability in both experiments
