Traceability of measurement, which is assured by means of calibration, is a basic condition for quality measurement results. The problem of traceability in the coordinate measuring technique is not ...yet solved because there exists no universal method for calibrating CMM components that would fulfil all the metrological requirements. The methods for calibrating CMM components mostly used at the time do not assure traceability of coordinate measurements. Therefore, two calibration methods for solving the specific measuring problems have been developed. In the thesis, the existing methods for assuring traceability are analysed as regards the uncertainty of measurement and economical aspects. A new method for determining the geometrical errors of CMMs is presented as well. The method represents an original contribution to the development of calibration methods. The development of the method is based on the analysis of weaknesses of the existing methods. Geometric errors are measured by means of laser interferometer, gauge blocks and electronic levels. The important advantage considering the existing method using laser interferometer is the consideration of the basic principle of the coordinate measuring technique. The existing method is based on the concept of machine tools. The masuring procedure based on the new method was experimentally testedf and statistically evaluated in the thesis. The results show a significantly better stability in comparison with the existing method. The results of the experiment and the analysis of the existing methods were used to propose the proper calibration methods in view of the measuring tasks, expenses and dead times of the CMMs.
