  • Neželeni učinki transfuzije = Adverse effects of blood transfusion
Kopač, Matjaž, 1974- ; Domanovič, Dragoslav
Nowadays transfusions are usually given without complications, although some cases are accompanied by adverse effects, which are the consequence of errors at different levels of the transfusion ... process, the patient's immune response or other complications. In the event of any adverse effects (except localised urticaria) the transfusion must be stopped immediately and investigations carried out to determine the cause. Initially, transfusiologists attempt to answer the question whether the adverse effect of the transfusion is a consequence of intravascular or extravascular immune haemolysis or of non-immune haemolysis. ABO incompatibility can cause intravascular haemolysis, one of the worse adverse effects of transfusion, which has a high mortality rate. Immunohaematological investigations are undertaken only if theclinical picture is suggestive of immune haemolysis.
