Obravnava otrok po dokazani okužbi sečil in otrok, pri katerih iz drugih razlogov sumimo na prirojene napake sečil = Evaluation of children after proven urinary tract infection and those in whom urinary tract anomalies are suspected due other reasonsKersnik-Levart, TanjaIn the first part of this review article the author focuses on the evaluation of children after proven urinary tract infection. The current basic algorithm of investigations is presented. Further ... evaluation and follow-up of these children depend on the results of basic investigations. The management of children with asymptomatic bacte riuria, with the definition and recommendations on when to treat asymptomatic bacteriuria are then presented. It is stressed that children with asymptomatic bacteriuria should be evaluatedin the same way as children with proven urinary tract infection. The first part of this review article concludes with the author's recommendations on the use of antibacterial prophylaxis. In the second part of this review article the author focuses on the evaluation of children in whom urinary tractanomalies are suspected due to other reasons. This group of children comprises those with a positive family history of urinary tract anomalies, newborns and children in whom abdominal ultrasound was done for other reasons and urinary tract anomalies were discovered incidentally. The evaluation of a newborn with prenatally or posmatally detected hydronephrosis is briefly described.
