  • Consolidation effect on bearing capacity of non-linear viscous soils
    Saje, Miran ; Šuklje, Lujo
The proceeding "Joint solution of diffusion and equilibrium equations for non-linear viscous soils" by the authors and I. Kovačič (1982) has been applied to a homogeneous layer of non-linear viscous ... soil subjected to the linearly increasing load by a road embankment. Three alternative permeabilities have been considered: small, moderate and perfect. The development of pore over-pressures, settlements and plastified zones in which the effective stress levels approach the failure envelope have been registeredand presented in figures. The results show important influence of the primary consolidation on the bearing capacity defined by the increase of settlements and settlement differences beyond the dangerous limits which indicate the failure
