The paper presents a computer aided design method for gear transmissions. The generalized desription of gear transmissions is introduced, which allows effective, multipurpose and user friendly data ...input interface to be built. The generalization is made possible through the use of some symbolic computer algebra fundamental algorithms. The optimization procedure is based on the genetic algorithm. The main advantage of the presented design procedure is its stability and applicability to many design problems.
