Basic facts about Construction Products Directive (CPD)

The aim of Construction Products Directive, shortly CPD, was to break down barriers to trade for construction products. CPD is one of the New Approach Directives enabling to put CE mark on the ...products if they fulfill so called "essential requirements" (ER). Because of different tradition and state-in-the-art in construction in Europe it was decided that only six requirements concerning health & safety have to be unified. Conformity with the requirements needs to be checked after installing the products into buildings, and technical specifications as an assessing tool for the products themselves were introduced. According to CPD basic technical specifications are harmonized European standards (hEN) and European technical approvals (ETA). As construction products are different (from cement to prefabricated house), their fitness for use had to be checked according to the different Attestation of Conformity (AoC) systems.
It was not necessary to add the material to the shelf.
