  • From the clearest springs : tradition and abstraction in the art of Dezső Korniss (1908-1984) : [Hungarian National gallery, Budapest, 19 December 2018-7 April 2019]
    Bak, Imre
Dezső Korniss was the first Hungarian artist to treat the motifs he retrieved from that "pure source" not as decorations or folk accessories, but as independent artworks in their own right, replete ... with meaning. In Korniss's works, folk motifs are not included in the pictures, but are themselves transfigured into pictures. The metamorphoses he enacted are as magical as the transformation of the hunter's sons into stags.
