    In order to make the projections of the future population growth and distribution in Slovenia more realistic, several alternatives were prepared. Among them the following two were selected (see the ... maps): alternative of moderate population concentration and alternative of population dispersion. Although the alternative of moderate population concentration forsees a more balanced population distribution in Slovenia it allows the population decline in several areas of Slovenia and the concentration in urban aglomerations and communal centers. It is very similar to the extrapolation of the existing trends. Realization of this alternative is therefore not difficult because only relatively small changes of the migration trends would be necessary. From this point of view it is more realistic, more probable, but it is not at all most suitable for all the Slovenian communes. The alternative of population dispersion on the other hand tries to preserve the existing population size even in the areas where emigration prevails and where very unsuitable age composition of the population does not guarantee that size of the natural increase which would prevent the population decline. This alternative needs radical measures for reducing the rural exodus as well as the emigrations to the urban aglomerations. If the principals of this alternative would be realized the future population distribution in Slovenia would be much more uniform. This would also mean the preservation of numerous settlements in the remote areas which are facing dereliction. It contributes to the preservation of the cultural landscape in the remote areas and to the preservation of the agricultural surfaces from the urban land use.Realisation of the population distribution concepts of Slovenia would need coordinated efforts in different sectors, because only with the creation of suitable living conditions and employment possibilities the negative migration trends could be modified.
