  • Comparison between different standardization and response function calculations
    Schichler, Birgit ...
Forty firs (Abies alba Mill.) were sampled in a mixed silver fir-beech forest (Abieti-Fagetum dinaricum) in the Dinaric Mountains in Slovenia. The objective of this study was to compare (1.) ... different techniques of standardization of raw tree-ring series and (2.) different procedures of response function analysis. A visual comparison of the index-series and a comparison of the correlation coefficients proved that the climatic signal common to all trees has been better represented by the moving average-detrended series than by the cubic spline-detrended series. The relationship between climate and growth was calculated using "simple" as well as bootstrapped multiple regression. The results of both procedures did not differ significantly. Temperature had a major and precipitation a minor impact on growth. The bootstrapped procedure led to higher regression coefficients and a higher variance explained by climate
