  • Thermal analysis of the polymer-steel tribological contacts [Elektronski vir]
Siddiqui, M. Shoaib Naseem ; Kalin, Mitjan
Frictional heating and the resultant contact temperature increase significantly influences the tribological performance of the polymer materials. Therefore, this work focuses on the contact ... temperature investigation in polyoxymethylene (POM) pin sliding against a steel (DIN 100Cr6) disk. The contact temperature was determined by combining the experimental and finite element modelling (FEM). In the experimental part, a pin-on-disk tribometer in combination with an in-house three-point temperature measurement system was used to determine the polymer pin temperature at three different points away from the contact region in the vertical direction. Whereas, in FEM, the steady-state heat transfer analysis of the polymer pin was performed to find the mathematical expression that can precisely describe the relationship between pin height and the temperature distribution. Finally, the experimental temperature data was extrapolated to the contact region by using the mathematical expression from the FEM.
