  • Genetic programming approach to predict drape coefficient of fabric [Elektronski vir]

    Drapability of fabric is a three-dimensional phenomenon that occurs when gravity force has an effect on fabric. The end shape of fabric drape is dependent on many influential parameters, such as the ... construction parameters of the fabric and the mechanical properties, as well as the physical properties of fabrics. If we want to determinate drape coefficient from the mechanical properties of textile materials, we need reliable, very expensive measuring equipment. Furthermore, the measurement procedure has to wait more than one day because sampling has to be carried out under standard testing condition it is very difficult to study more than one mechanical parameter's influence on fabric drape. In this paper, a genetic programming approach was used for predicting the drape coefficient of fabric. The mechanical propertiesof fabrics were used as input parameters. They were measured using the Kawabata Evaluation System and the drape coefficient was evaluated using the Drape Analyzer by computer program. Measurements were carried out using a Cusick Drape meter. The results for fabric drape coefficient prediction obtained by genetic programming have been compared and verified with the measurement results. The research showed that genetic programming is an appropriate method for predicting the fabric drape coefficient on the basis ofmechanical properties. The proposed approach could serve as an effective anduseful tool for fabric and clothes designers as well as research workers.
