  • Unsymmetric bolted end-plate moment connections in earthquake conditions
Beg, Darko, 1954-2014 ; Skuber, Peter, gradbeništvo, 1969- ; Remec, Črtomir
The paper deals with unsymmetric bolted end-plate moment connections used in frames to resist seismic loading. Such misuse in the past happened from time to time in Slovenia. To investigate this ... problem a few tests were done on unsymmetric connections, and a nonlinear dynamic analysis was performed. A numerical model for a connection was established in the form of rotational spring. The properties of the model include unsymmetric nature of connections, pinching of hysteretic loops and modelling of behaviour of the connection after rupture of bolts on one side of the connection, which results in very pronounced unsymmetric behaviour. This numerical model was built into the computer program DRAIN 2DX, which was then used for the nonlinear dynamic analysis of simple frames subjected to seismic actions. The main conclusion of the analysis is that the frames under consideration behaved better than expected even after partial bolt rupture in some connections
