  • Image correction for 3D laser engraving

    In this paper we present a novel image correction method for laser engraving on curved and tilted surfaces. The method is based on digital processing algorithms and allows two possible corrections: a ... projection transformation and a sticker effect transformation. The projection transformation projects the image onto the work piece surface and results in an undistorted image seen along the projection axis. The sticker effect transformation simulates a label pasted on the work piece surface. The method has been implemented as intuitive computer software that connects a laser scanner, which obtains a 3D model of the work piece, and a laser controller which engraves the corrected image. The experimental results demonstrate that the method successfully removes geometrical distortions of the engraved images on titled and curved surfaces.
