  • Energy efficiency estimation of a combined production chain - forming and machining
    Kuzman, Karl, 1941-2022
When analysing the energy consumption or improving its efficiency, the approaches are sometimes very idealistic, far away from the daily practice on the shop floor level. From previous researches it ... is known how much specific energy is needed for forming, machining operations, for heat and surface treatments. With this knowledge it is then possible to evaluate complex process chains and to optimise them regarding minimal energy consumption and/or minimising cost generation. The contribution intends to discuss the problem of energy consumption in real production environments, namely it is necessary to consider additional loses of energy as lead times of machines, energy for handling and logistics, additional energy consumption as a result of non adequate machines. At the end the energy efficiency estimation will be performed for a combined processes chain (forming and machining). Very often special lubricants and lubricants carriers are used to to assure lower friction and longer tool life. But these measures affect the danger of pollution, needs again more energy for application and later on for the removal of lubricants. An appropriate balance between eco problems and energy consumption should be the most adequate basis for subsequent decision taking. Finally the paper intends to point out the importance of adequate equipment and process selection, which would assure minimal energy consumption as well the ecological burden inside permissible limits.
