    Modern manufacturing can not be imagined without usage of cutting tools. Cutting tools represent significant elements of processing systems. They are used in the machining of different pieces which ... are produced in that way. Cutting tool carries out two functions, it cuts the material and it forms the shape of a work -piece surface. Improvement of machining technology is very important. Taking into account the fact that productivity and techno-economic effects reached in the manufacturing process depend on the level of machining technology. High-quality cutting tools are needed for economical production. Production of these tools requires previous detailed study, computation and construction for every specific case. Design and construction of cutting tools is thoughtful and creative project. Construction of cutting tools has to be high-quality and it should fulfill technical, economical and esthetic demands. Gear hob is a cutting tool which is used for processing of gear teeth using the relative rolling method. Geometric parameters of gear hob have a significant impact on productivity and processing expenses. In this paper a possibility of application of genetic algorithm, as a method for optimization of geometric parameters of tool, in the design and construction of gear hob was analyzed.
