    Due to modern pharmacotherapy, the time of hospitalisation is getting shorter,hence the care for patients with mental disorders is transferred to patients families, which represents a burden to them. ... There are two types of burden: objective burden that represents external pressure, exists in the environment and includes measurable problems, and "subjective burden" that is viewed as a personal, internal experience. Professionals who work with families with mentally disturbed patients are expected to be able to recognisethese burdnes and to do everything in their power to reduce them. This article refers to the burden on families of persons with mental disorders, with special emphasis on schizophrenia.
