  • How to improve the positional accuracy of hsc machine tools [Elektronski vir]

    This paper presents general issues, methods and a practical example of the machine tool positional accuracy improvement in order to fulfil the increasing accuracy demand in modern machining ... technologies. The machine accuracy is mainly defined by the CNC driven axes positioning repeatability, which depends on the quality of the machine driving elements, measuring elements and the control-measure circuit. All accuracy measurements and their further analysis have been performed on a linear driven vertical machining centre Sodick MC430L using the laser interferometer Renishaw ML 10 Gold Standard. In the standardized measuring method using laser interferometer, the laser beam is separated into the reference and measuring beam by means of a semi reflecting mirror. While the reference beam always follows the same path inside the interferometer, the measuring beam is reflected off a triple mirror on the measured object. The accuracy and repeatability measurements of the machine positioning have shown that the machine does not achieve factory specifications in the horizontal and vertical directions. Inaccuracies were corrected with the pitch error compensation method, which compensate the deviations of the CNC driven axes. Additionally is the pitch error compensation function improved by setting the compensation amounts separately for the positive and negative directions, different compensation can be applied to each direction. Finally we achieve a complete measurement report with the presented irregularities in the machine position accuracy and repeatability. This measurement and the correction method can be used for the measurements of linear displacement accuracy in the implementation of acceptance tests or periodical functional test of CNC machine tools.
