    Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion onthe safety and efficacy of agar as a feed additive for pets and non-food-producing animals. Owing ... thelack of information, the FEEDAP Panel is not in the position to conclude on the safety of agar for petsand other non-food-producing animals and for the user. The FEEDAP Panel concludes that the additiveis efficacious as a gelling agent, thickener and contributes to stabilise canned pet feed. No conclusioncan be drawn on the efficacy of the additive as a binder.
