  • On a property of the adele ring of the rationals

    Let ▫$\mathbb{P}$▫ be the set of prime numbers, ▫${\mathbb{Q}}_p$▫ the field of ▫$p$▫-adic numbers and ▫${\mathbb{Z}}_p$▫ the ring of ▫$p$▫-adic integers. The ring ▫$$A = \Biggl\{ x\in \prod_{p \in ... {\mathbb{P}}} {\mathbb{Q}}_p: kx \in \prod_{p \in {\mathbb{P}}} {\mathbb{Z}}_p \textrm{ for some } k \in {\mathbb{N}} \Biggr\}$$▫ is called the adele ring of the rationals ▫$\mathbb{Q}$▫. It is shown that ▫$A$▫ (like ▫$\mathbb{R}$▫ and ▫${\mathbb{Q}}_p$▫, ▫$p \in \mathbb{P}$▫) has only one ring automorphism - the identity of ▫$A$▫. This result is applied to the category ▫${\mathcal{L}}_{\mathbb{Q}}$▫ of locally compact topological modules over ▫$\mathbb{Q}$▫.
