  • Estimating the density of soundings for geotechnical site investigation using fuzzy sets [Elektronski vir]

    The aim of the study is to determine the optimal number of soundings to carry-out on site for geotechnical investigations. Number of parameters influences the decision on the density of needed ... boreholes for geotechnical investigation. The geology of the site, the type of project and available information about adjoining sites are important parameters and they are in general expressed linguistically in a qualitative way depending on the Engineers' judgement. Each parameter influences the density (number) of soundings to execute. A Fuzzy Inference System (F.I.S) was built for this purpose and is used as a decision support system for engineer. Fuzzy sets are suitable for their ability to translate the human linguistic expressions and dealing with uncertainties and vagueness.
