    Lower-limb prostheses are divided according to the level of amputation; generally, they are divided into trans-tibial and trans-femoral prostheses. According to the method of production and the ... choice of components, they are divided into endoskeletal and exoskeletal prostheses. In endoskeletal prosthesis, the transfer of forces is conducted through the skeleton, i.e. tubes with related tube adapters. Tubes and adapters can be made from steel, aluminum, titanium, carbon or plastic materials. In exoskeletal prostheses, the transfer of forces to the surface is conducted through the filler, which is mostly made from hard foam. Prostheses are made of several components. The most important part of a prosthesis is a good socket A prerequisite for a goodsocket is appropriate surgical treatment followed by stump preparation. Individual casts for each patient are taken by a prosthetist. The prosthetist also chooses the socket shape and material. Prosthetic sockets can be made from thermoplastic materials (PP, PE - various copolymers, thermolyn), they can be laminated and reinforced with glass and carbon fibers. Apart from the socket, each prosthesis has a prosthetic foot and a trans-femoral prosthesis also has a prosthetic knee. Knee units are divided into mechanical and hydraulic or pneumatic and according to the number ofaxes into single-axis, multi-axis or polycentric. Several designs of prosthetic feet are used - solidankle, single-axis, multi-axis and a new generation of prosthetic feet: energy-storing feet. Preliminary testing and co-operation of all experts on the rehabilitation team is necessary for the decision on prosthetic components, which in turn influences the satisfaction of the user. Despite newmaterials, new technology and advanced socket shapes, the prerequisite for a good prosthesis is still a good and suitable stump.
