    The project "Encyclopedia of natural and cultural heritage in Slovenia" was launched at the beginning of 2008. At the moment Slovenian heritage is scattered across different data collections, so as ... the first goal of the project the development of a web portal prototype was set. This project is conceived as a comprehensive, collaborative, ever-growing, and personalized Encyclopedia of natural and cultural heritage in Slovenia. It is designed as a system of websites that gives access to anyone on all key information about Slovene heritage. The goals this project aims to pursue are: (1) to create a constantly evolving encyclopedia that lives on the Internet, with contributions from scientists and amateurs alike; (2) to engage a wide audience (i.e. schoolchildren, students, educators, scientists, citizens) and (3) to increase the collective recognition and understanding of heritage, and safeguard the richest possible spectrum of its presence and conservation. The Encyclopedia of natural and cultural heritage in Slovenia will provide high-quality, well-organized information available on an unprecedented level. In this way the web portal will enable and give sufficient means for an E-community to form around issues related to natural and cultural heritage relevant to the Slovenian citizens.
