    New methods for designing production systems require virtual models of system components including industrial robots. Virtual models of complete systems enable simulations, optimisation of system ... parameters, designing, off-line programming and supervision. A novel system for developing virtual models of real robotic systems is introduced. The virtual model of an industrial robot was developed with reverse engineering techniques and the obtained data are transferred into common used designing software. A direct and inverse kinematic model of the robot ACMA XR 701 in the virtual space was developed and prepared for off-line programming of the robot model in the virtual space.
