  • Glycerol combustion in a gas turbine [Elektronski vir] : analysis of gaseous and particulate emissions
Seljak, Tine, strojnik ; Katrašnik, Tomaž
The presented paper focuses on combustion analysis of a highly oxygenated and viscous fuel in an internal combustion micro gas turbine. The goal of the study is to present the benefits and obstacles ... of utilization of such fuels in engines rather than in atmospheric combustion devices which is the most common approach. While technical difficulty of the proposed approach is rather high, the environmental benefits in terms of NOx emissions and PM emissions are significant as both species are significantly reduced. This effect is mainly attributed to the influence of oxygen content in the fuel which reduces the nitrogen content in the high temperature combustion zone and altered local air - fuel ratio which supresses soot formation. The influence of highly oxygenated and viscous fuel is perceivable also through higher CO and THC emissions, however results indicate that further tuning of operating parameters in terms of turbine inlet temperature could reduce also these two species so that the benefits of the fuel could be exploited on a larger scale.
