  • Static and dynamic wetting of pao on various steel surfaces [Elektronski vir]
    Kus, Maja ; Kalin, Mitjan
Studies in recent years have shown that the wettability of a solid surface with oil effects the tribological behaviour of the contact, however there is still a lack of understanding on what are the ... main phenomenon on solid-liquid interface that play a key role in determining the coefficient of friction. Characterization of static wettability using the so-called static contact angle has in fact in some engineering systems proven to be inadequate or insufficient, so we wonder if the dynamic interfacial parameter is more suitable for describing the interactions between the surface and the liquid in a real tribological system. Dynamic wetting (i.e. the displacement of the gas phase from the solid surface with the liquid) is characterized by the advancing and receding angle and their hysteresis. With this study we want to show how the dynamic wetting parameters differ from static wetting parameters and how they can be used to characterize interfacial interactions in an engineering system. We studied static and dynamic wettability with synthetic PAO oil on standard bearing steel DIN 100Cr6 (AISI 52100) with chemisorbed additives of different polarities. Presented here are the results of this work and the method for dynamic wetting measurements with PAO oil.
