  • Celovita oskrba obsežne oligodontije s funkcionalnega in psihološkega vidika = Early clinical management of oligodontia - functional and aesthetic considerations
    Škapin, M...
Oligodontia or partial anodontia is congenital absence of one or more teeth inthe primary or permanent dentition, The disorder is often genetically determined and is inherited through an autosomal ... gene with variable expression. The treatment comprises preventive, restorative, orthodontic and prosthodontic procedures. Its aim is to provide adequate function, maintain the vertical dimension, restore aesthetic appeal and enable normal speech development. In the primary dentition, special emphasis is placed on maintaining those primary teeth with no developed successive permanent teeth. Early aesthetic rehabilitation, accomplished before the child enters school, is essential from a psychological point of view. Removable partial dentures should allow normal growth and development of the jaws. They should be changedregularly every two to three years. The article decribes the clinical management of a boy with massive oligodontia. Eight permanent teeth (lateral incisors, canines, second and third molars) were missing in his upper jaw, andonly three permanent teeth (both first molars and one premolar) were developed and erupted in his lower jaw. The treatment was begun at 5 years of age continued until the age of 27.
