  • Preliminary validation of the slovenian version of the child and adolescent mindfulness measure (CAMM)
    Simčič, Blaž
Mindfulness research is gaining increasingly more attention in the field of education. Numerous foreign studies confirm that well designed mindfulness programmes in kindergartens and schools improve ... psychological, emotional and physical health, as well as the subjective well-being of children and adolescents; it is therefore essential that Slovenian studies in this field are also based on high quality measuring tools. This study aimed to verify the basic measurement characteristics of the Slovenian version of the Child and Adolescent Mindfulness Measure (CAMM) for a sample of secondary school pupils. We have determined that the CAMM represents a reliable and valid tool for the assessment of mindfulness in adolescents. The results of the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses have confirmed its one-factor structure. Based on the results of the item response theory we have found that a mere half of the items contribute to the majority of the information of the entire measure. Even though the CAMM represents a useful tool for the assessment of mindfulness in Slovenian adolescents, it requires additional verification and improvements. It would therefore be worth verifying the basic measurement characteristics for primary school pupils and consider the feasibility of the inclusion of all items of the original measure.
